- "That's what this is about? I'm senior on the Blackbox project, Josh. That's how it works here. If you weren't such a pisspoor team player you'd understand that."
- – Lane Carpenter to Josh Dalton [src]
Lane Carpenter is an industrial designer working on Talos I during Prey (2017).
History[]
Background[]
Lane Carpenter was an industrial designer working in the Beams and Waves lab at Hardware Labs. He primarily worked on the Blackbox Project as the project lead. Josh Dalton accused Carpenter of stealing his design for the Q-Beam and taking all the credit for himself. Dalton eventually confronted Carpenter and attacked him with the prototype Q-Beam. However, it seems Carpenter killed Dalton first, as Dalton's corpse can be found in G.U.T.S. alongside a working Q-Beam and a recording of the confrontation. Carpenter did not report the incident, but the work problems caused by Dalton's absence eventually kicked off an investigation. Talos 1 authorities traced Dalton to G.U.T.S. before they were permanently interrupted by the Typhon containment breach.
Prey (2017)[]
Morgan Yu finds Carpenter already turned into a Phantom in the Beams and Waves lab. He carries a Q-Beam cell fabrication plan, 4 Typhon organs, medkit, petri dish sample and psi hypo.
