This page lists all Easter Eggs featured in and relating to the 2017 game Prey.
Game References[]
Arx Fatalis[]
In the Crew Quarters, the role-playing board game called Fatal Fortress has several references to the first game developed by Arkane Studios, Arx Fatalis. Arx Fatalis itself is latin for "fatal fortress"[1].
Antoinette Sokol[]
The author of Hands-On Electronics is a reference to Anton Sokolov, a character from Arkane Studios' game series Dishonored. Sokolov is a genius inventor who conceived many electrical devices powered by whale oil.
Corvo Container Corporation[]
The company shares its name with Corvo Attano, first protagonist of Arkane Studios' series Dishonored.
Looking Glass Studios[]
The Looking Glass technology references by name Looking Glass Studios, the game developers who pioneered the immersive simulation game genre with series such as the System Shock and Thief. In the same vein, the first passcode given to the player, 0451, is a continuous reference in the immersive sim genre. The code is always used as the first passcode in a game, starting from the System Shock series to the Deus Ex, BioShock and Dishonored series as well as other games sharing the same genre.
The same code appears in the trailer of Prey: Mooncrash as the numbers of escape attempts displayed in the video.[2]
Arkane Studios References[]
Postcard[]
There's a postcard in Morgan's closet in the Neuromod Division stating "Greetings From Austin, Texas". Austin is where the game was developed, which can be interpreted as the developers welcoming the players to the game.
Movie posters[]
The movie posters found around Talos I contain many anagrams of Arkane Studio's developer names such as Raphael Colantonio and Ricardo Bare.
Press Sneak[]
The Press Sneak achievement, which tasks players into reading emails of Talos I employees, as well as its name, references to an incident dated back from May 2013. At that time, the game news website Kotaku reported from leaked emails that Bethesda tasked Arkane's Austin studio into rebooting the Prey series, 3 years before the official reveal. Shortly after, Arkane's director Raphael Colantonio instructed his team through an email to not answer to game journalists regarding the new game, calling them "sneak press fucks". The achievement is meant as an humorous nod to it. [3][4]
Movie References[]
2001: A Space Odyssey[]
There are several references to the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. The Escape Pod's design is a subtle reference to the escape pods in the spaceship Discovery One.[5] The Low-G transporter found in the G.U.T.S. are also similar to the same autonomous vehicles from the movie. Finally, the server in Deep Storage used to monitor and track TranStar employees, recognizable for its red eye, references the central computer of Discovery One, HAL 9000.[6]
Refences to Prey in Other Titles[]
The Evil Within 2[]
- A TranStar mug is featured as one of the collectible "Mysterious Objects". It's description states "You feel like you've seen this before, but you can't quite put your finger on when or where that was." It can be found in the Sanctuary Hotel in the Business District, behind the reception desk.
Dishonored: Death of the Outsider[]
- A Dishonored themed version of the Neuromod skull stand prop can be found in the dentist's office of Upper Cyria.
- Mission three, "The Bank Job", features a locker belonging to "Morgan Yu". It can be unlocked with the combination 3-1-5. This number is a reference to March 15, the day repeated in Morgan's memory hamster wheel.
Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot[]
- A mug with the "Not a Mimic" sticky note will appear on your desk after making some progress in the game.
DOOM Eternal[]
- In the Doom Slayer's fortress, a shelf of books can be found, with one titled "2 Prey or Not 2 Prey". This spin on the Hamlet quote is likely a reference to the confusion surrounding Arkane's Prey releasing instead of the cancelled sequel to Human Head Studios' title.
- In mission six, "ARC Complex" a computer with the "Not a Mimic" sticky note attached to it can be found.
"DEATHLOOP"[]
- The "TranStar Trencher", a Prey themed skin for the Vopat Trencher shotgun, is available with the PS5 deluxe edition of the game. It resembles the TranStar space uniform, with the bottom painted red and black and the top sporting triangular glass much like a breather helmet. It has a special bullet spread pattern that leaves behind holes in the shape of a Mimic.
- The island of Blackreef contains many arcade cabinets referencing real world games. One that can be seen sometimes is titled "Yerp '17" - Prey ('17) spelled backwards.
- Charlie Montague's alien planet roleplaying game, "Condition Detachment", contains some colorful character standees that vaguely resemble people in TranStar uniforms.
Hi-Fi Rush[]
- An email sent from Zanzo can be read that suggest the creation of a device identical to Neuromods. An excerpt reads: "what IF we found alien DNA and could implant that in a person, by injecting them in the eye, giving us natural superpowers!".
Redfall[]
- A scarecrow can be found in one of the safehouses of Burial Point, named "Scary McScareface". A likely reference to Mr. Glooey McGlooface.
- The Prey Windows desktop icon can be found on a computer in Redfall Commons.
- Fatal Fortress board games and playing cards can be found and picked up that award some money.
- Arcade cabinets for "Galactic Conquistadors IX" can be found throughout the game. This is from the same series as a game found in Morgan Yu's apartment, and at one point mentioned in a conversation with Alex Yu.
- Several reused objects from Prey: Typhon Hunter can be found all throughout the game, such as bottles of liquor and cardboard boxes.
- There is an unused model in the game files for a TranStar mug weapon charm.
