Prey Wiki

Prey is an award-winning franchise consisting of two incarnations of first-person shooter immersive sim video games, the first, Prey (2006), being developed by Human Head Studios under contract for 3D Realms and published by 2K Games, and the second , Prey (2017), being developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks.

The first game's story is focused on Cherokee Domasi "Tommy" Tawodi as he, his girlfriend, and grandfather are abducted aboard an alien spaceship known as the Sphere as it consumes material from the Earth in order to sustain itself. Tommy's Cherokee heritage allows him to let his spirit roam freely at times and come back to life after dying, which gives Tommy an edge in his battle to survive.

The second game takes place in the near future of an alternate timeline in which an accelerated Space Race led to the discovery of the Typhon, a hostile alien force composed of many forms with both physical and psychic abilities. The game centers around Morgan Yu, a scientist and TranStar Corporation executive exploring the lunar orbital space station, Talos I, where the Typhon have escaped confinement. The player uses a variety of weapons and abilities, some derived from the Typhon themselves, to survive while progressing to end the alien outbreak on the station and ultimately escape.

Arkane's 2017 game is largely unrelated to the 2006 game. While Prey 2, a sequel to the 2006 game, had been planned by Human Head, it fell into development hell following the transfer of the intellectual property from 3D Realms to Bethesda Softworks, and was eventually canceled in 2014. Arkane's game only incorporates the previous game's name and the broad theme of the protagonist being hunted by aliens.

The cancelled Prey 2 video game was to focus on U.S. Marshal Killian Samuels, who starts the game on a passenger flight which suddenly crashes onto The Sphere, shown during the events of Prey. At the end of a short battle with some aliens he is knocked unconscious, after which the plot jumps forward several years. Samuels is now a bounty hunter on the alien world Exodus. Though he is aware of his profession and has retained his skills, he has no memory of what happened in the time that passed since his abduction. He initially believes himself to be the only human on Exodus until he runs into Tommy, whom he has apparently met in the period he no longer remembers. Killian then resumes his bounty hunter activities while recovering his memory.
